Craziest Egg Hunt (Final Easter Post)

We were invited to dinner on Sunday at Lori's house along with some close friends of their family. While there, we were introduced to the craziest egg hunt I have ever seen. Every year since Lori was in college their family has hosted a cash only egg hunt. Traditionally, it was held outdoors, but since we live in Minnespta and there is often snow on the ground, they now have it inside their house.

This hunt is cut-throat. Most of the eggs have one dollar bills inside, but there are a couple of larger bills and one, very special gold egg with a $100 bill inside. The adults participate (except Thomas who hides the eggs) and they are really hard to find.

Let me give you some examples of where the eggs were hidden: inside the couch cushions, inside the vents, taped under furniture, inside cleaning supplies, inside the dirty bag inside the vacuum cleaner, buried in a half gallon of ice cream in the freezer, in the pot of corn on the stove, taped to the tank inside the toilet, inside a bag of trail mix in the pantry, inside the dishwasher . . . they tear the house apart. When the hunt is over, it looks like a bomb has gone off and everything is out of every drawer. It is insane and it takes a very good humored woman to be OK with the destruction. Actually Lori hunts for eggs, so she is taking the house apart too. My kids had a blast though they hung back in the beginning not quite believing it was OK to dump out all of the Cascade tablets to find the egg inside! Their kids and friends talk about the egg hunt all year long - it is so much fun and hysterical to watch!

This year, for the first time, no one found the gold egg (it was taped to the back of a kitchen drawer) so after dinner, Thomas took it outside and hid it in the yard. Once more they were off, pulling up rocks, digging up flower beds lifting pots until finally, the egg was found inside the middle part of the storm drain behind a bunch of rocks. Guess who found it?!

  1. OH my gosh. I am hyperventilating at the thought of this. What an amazing woman she must be to allow this to happen! So WHO found the golden egg?!?
